When I was asked to identify a specific problem in my community, human trafficking immediately appeared in my mind. My mother, ever since I was younger, had volunteered for our local child advocacy center, so I was always cognizant of what human trafficking is and how horrendous these crimes are. So when I submitted for The National Civics Bee and had to come up with an initiative to address a problem, I came up with The WRATH. However, this idea did not come to me overnight. My solution originally started as a plan specific to my community. I realized that the problem with human trafficking prevention is not that there are no resources, because there is a plethora. The problem is that no one knows that these resources exist, so I decided I would go around to different schools and other organizations and give presentations on human trafficking prevention to educate students on the signs of human trafficking and how to get help if you are in that situation. Then I realized this resolution would depend entirely on me. Now, originally I of course had thought of bringing volunteers in to help me as well, but then my plan would die when I was unable to travel to schools regularly. This is when I thought of The WRATH, so that these resources were accessible to everyone, not just my city or state. Now anybody with internet access can download my free presentation materials to educate students, coworkers, employers, family, anybody on human trafficking.
